Apple’s iCloud: Devices in Background, Data in Forefront

Going one step ahead Apple announced its cloud service named iCloud at Apple World Wide Developers Conference on June 6, 2011. Apple cloud service allows users to store datd like music, apps, ibooks, photos, documents, contacts etc. and automatically synchronize between multiple devices like iPhones, iPods, iPads MAC or personal computers. iClous also serves a plateform for Apple's email servers, calanders, contacts and thus there is no need to subscribe for MobileMe service. Using iCloud each account can store upto 5GB of data for free.


Features:

iTunes in the Cloud: In iCloud all your purchases from iTunes Music store will available on all your registered devices. That means if you download music from iTunes on any device, iCloud stores the track and the same will be available from any of your registered devices like iPAD, MAC, PC, iPhone and iPOD touch.

Photo Stream: Click photos from any device with iCloud and it will be sent to all your registred devices and will also be available live on Apple's servers for 30 days. When you take a photo with any iOS device or import a photo from your digital camera to your Mac or PC iCloud stores it and beam it to all you devices.

iOS and OS X app integration: iCloud stores your contacts, email, calendars and maintains their integrity.
  • Mail: With iCloud you get an me.com email account with push updates enabled. iCloud automatically beams new messages to all your registered devices and keeps all your folders synchronized so that you get the updated mailbox irrespective of the device you are using.
  • Calendar: With iCloud you will get the updated calendar no matter on which device you updated the calendar entry and which device you are using. iCloud pushes every calendar entry update to all your devices. It also facilitates you to share calendars with other iCloud users and when this shared calendar gets updated by any one, it will be updated on everyone's device.
  • Contacts: With iCloud if you add or update any contact information on one of your devices the updation will be sent to all your registered devices automatically.
  • Documents: iWork apps can store all you documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the iCloud. Which facilitated you to access and edit the documents on any device from is last state and you need not to save and send them to all your devices because iCloud automatically beams them to all your devices.

Purchase History: With iCloud you can see your purchase history (if currently available in iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore) at one place and can download the purchased app, iBooks for any other device at no additional cost. When you purchase new app iCloud sent them to all your registered devices but it requires the following specification

  • iOS 4.3.3 on iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4 (GSM model)
  • iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation)
  • iPad, or iPad 2
  • Mac or PC with iTunes 10.3.

Backup: iCloud automatically save all the updates you made so you need not to worry and waste your time and efforts to backup your data and information. iCloud backups all your iOS data, purchase informations, photos and videos messages and ringtones. In simpler terms it backups all the work you had done.

With the launch of iCloud Apple enteres in the Cloud computing market . Apple states that “iCloud is much more than a hard drive in the sky”. With iCloud you need not to synchronize or manage your task, anything you do or update will automatically pushed to all your devices and you will get the latest version of all the information or documents on all devices.
